SOMERSET COUNTY FIREARMS RANGE AND
FAST
ROOM SCHEDULE
2013
Police Academy Catalog

IMPORTANT
NOTICE REGARDING CLASS 48-13

November 8, 2012
Dear Alternate Route Candidate,
As a result of a policy
change at the New Jersey Police Training Commission, The Somerset County
Police Academy will not be conducting a January 2013 class. We have
rescheduled the class for June of 2013.
Your background
investigations will continue and we will be in touch with you for
scheduling the remaining parts of the selection process. In an effort
to be as fair as possible, we plan on offering all candidates an
opportunity to be a member of a future class provided they successfully
complete all remaining facets of the background investigation to include
the medical and psychological components.
This means that successful
candidates will remain on an eligibility list until the list is
exhausted. As a result of a new matrix promulgated by the Police
Training Commission, we are unable to determine exactly how many
candidates will be permitted in future classes until a particular class
date becomes closer.
Successful potential
appointees will be kept on the list and it will be incumbent on any
particular candidate to step out of the process if they so desire and to
notify the academy of such a decision. The academy will contact you in
reference to any scheduling regarding medical and psychological exams.
We believe that this is the fairest and most equitable method for
addressing this unforeseen issue.
Best of luck and
take the time to prepare both mentally and physically.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dr. Richard Celeste, Deputy Chief (ret.)
Academy Director

New Jersey to offer such a program in 1993. The Somerset County Police
Academy’s Basic Police Alternate Route Program is certified by the New

During the training process, recruits are instructed in over 120
subjects to include: Police Professionalism; Criminal Justice Systems;
Criminal Law; Arrest, Search and Seizure; Communications; Emergency
Driving; Emergency Medical Training; Firearms; Self-Defense; Patrol
Practices; Motor Vehicle Law; Accident Investigation; Criminal

continuing education related topics. The Police Academy is operated by
the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office in conjunction with Raritan
Valley Community College and law enforcement authorities in Hunterdon,
